Stamps & demos for the C-605

If you bought a C-605 during the presale, then your paddle is approved without any stamp to prove it. We're fixing this. On Saturday, August 22 we are at the Pegasus courts in Brunswick to stamp unstamped pre-sale paddles, and put C-605s in the hands of anyone who wants to hit with one.

The SALT x MMP Event is all about 2 things: 1. Printing "USAP Approved" stamps on pre-sold C-605s 2. enabling low-friction paddle demos for MMP members.

Questions

Read this part before you drive over

Pegasus is a private court complex. Mid Coast Maine Pickleball leases it, maintains it, and carries the insurance on it, and the club’s standing rule is that you have to be a member to play there. That rule is not ours, and we are not the people who get to bend it.

Membership is $50 for the year and it covers Pegasus, Neptune, and the club’s court time at the MARC. The membership year runs April to March, and the club prorates the fee for anyone joining after August. If you play in Brunswick with any regularity, you were probably going to end up joining anyway.

If you bought a presale C-605 and the club is not your scene, do not worry about it. Pegasus is the first stamping venue, not the only one. Email info@saltpickleball.com and we will put you on the list for the next date.

1. What a demo day actually is

If you have never been to one, it is less of an event than the word suggests.

We bring paddles. You pick one up, play with it for as long as you want, and hand it back. That is the entire mechanism. There is no sign-up sheet, no demo fee, and nothing to say no to at the end of it. Nobody is going to follow you to your car.

The reason we keep doing this is that a spec sheet cannot tell you how a paddle feels on a reset at the kitchen line, whether it buzzes your wrist on a mishit, or whether the grip actually fits your hand. We went through that argument at length in an earlier piece about where to demo SALT paddles. The short version is that a paddle bought blind is how closets fill up with barely-used paddles.

2. Why C-605s purchased in the presale have no stamp

Close-up of the official USA Pickleball approved stamp printed on the face of a SALT C-605 paddle.
USA Pickleball approved stamp on the C-605.

This half is specific, and it only applies to some of you. The C-605 passed USA Pickleball certification earlier this summer with no deviations. PBCoR of 0.41 against a 0.43 cap, surface friction of 0.117 against a 0.1875 cap, everything else in spec. We published the full test sheet when the results came back.

Here is the wrinkle. Approval applies to the model. The stamp is a physical mark printed on the face of an individual paddle, and the paddles that went out during the presale shipped before there was anything to print. So what is in your bag is an approved paddle carrying no evidence that it is one.

That matters in exactly one place, which is a tournament check-in table. The person looking at your paddle is looking at the face of it, not at a database. No stamp turns into a conversation you would rather not be having five minutes before your first match.

We will be stamping on site, officially. Bring the paddle. It takes about a minute and then it is done. Then, you'll be free to use your C-605 to smoke the competition at your next sanctioned tournament.

It is a control paddle with a large sweet spot and a lot of dwell, and it still has enough left over to end a point when you decide to. We wrote a longer piece about that, but you will learn more about it in ten minutes on a court than in another paragraph here.

Who should come

You bought a C-605 in the presale. You are the reason there is a date at all. Bring the paddle.

You are an MMP member who has never hit a SALT paddle. Free paddle, free morning, no follow-up email.

You have read about the C-605 and want to know whether it's the real deal. Fair. Come find out. It is a hard claim to verify from a product page.

You play Saturday mornings at Pegasus anyway. Then you are coming regardless.

Getting there

Pegasus Courts sit at 126 Pegasus Street on Brunswick Landing. Park along the street or in the rec center lot. The courts are outdoor, which is worth holding in mind for the last week of August in Maine. If the sky looks wrong that morning, check with the club or email us before you make the drive.

FAQ

Do I need to be a Mid Coast Maine Pickleball member to come?

Yes. Pegasus is private, club-leased, members-only property, and this event runs through the club. Membership is $50 for the year, covers all three of the club’s court complexes, and is prorated for anyone joining after August. You can join here.

I bought a presale C-605 but I am not an MMP member. What happens to my stamp?

You still get it. Pegasus is the first stamping venue and there will be more. Email info@saltpickleball.com and we will get you on the list for the next date and make sure your paddle gets done. If you just want a quick stamp, bring your paddle by and we'll get you squared away. The courts are reserved for MMP - its an insurance thing.

Is it free?

Yes. The demos are free, the stamping is free, and there is nothing you have to buy to take part. The only cost involved is the club membership, and that money goes to MMP for court upkeep and insurance, not to us.

What time does it end?

We are starting at 9:00 AM and we have deliberately not published an end time. We expect to be there for a good chunk of the morning. If a stamp is the reason you are coming, come early.

Do I need to bring anything?

If you own a presale C-605, bring the paddle. That is the one thing we cannot supply. Otherwise bring court shoes and nothing else. Demo paddles are ours to hand out.

Can I buy a paddle there?

Possibly. We will bring what stock we have with us, and we are not going to promise a specific model or edge guard color will be in the bag. If buying is the actual plan, the product page is the reliable route.

What happens if it rains?

These are outdoor courts, so the weather has the final say. If it looks marginal, check MMP’s channels or email info@saltpickleball.com before you drive over and we will tell you what we know. We also have Sunday, 8/23 penciled as a rain date.

Where exactly are Pegasus Courts?

126 Pegasus Street, Brunswick, Maine, on Brunswick Landing. Park along the street or in the rec center lot.

Pegasus is the first one, not the only one

We are running stamping events at more than one venue over the next several weeks, because asking everyone in Maine to drive to Brunswick on a Saturday morning is not ideal. We'll be dropping details about the additional events as they're available, but no hard dates yet.

Among the events in the pipeline is a charity tournament at the HNPEA courts in Harpswell, aiming at the end of September, before the cold arrives and everyone moves indoors. No date yet. Nothing to sign up for yet. We have written before about why the Midcoast pickleball scene works the way it does, and HNPEA is a large part of that answer.

If you want us somewhere specific in the meantime, tell us. info@saltpickleball.com. We read those.

See you at Pegasus.

The C-605 is USA Pickleball approved and legal for sanctioned play. Pegasus Courts are private, club-managed courts. Mid Coast Maine Pickleball membership is required for access.
