The C-605 is the first model in SALT Pickleball's Ctrl Series - built for players who treat pickleball like chess. Players who value placement over power. The kind who keep points alive, make better decisions, and end rallies without needing to force it. A tool to help you swing smarter, not harder. However, the C-605 is not your average control paddle. When dropping a new control paddle, most brands are like, "our new control paddle does this and that with control, confidence, and commitment." Alliteration & marketing taglines.

"Check out our new control paddle. It's very controlled. Look how controlled it is."

Not SALT, and not the C-605. This model is our new control paddle that might be a little too controlling. We named it C-605 because it's a DSM-5 designation for a highly controlling personality. We're not joking - we thought about naming it "your crazy ex."

What dwell time actually means.

Most paddle descriptions throw “dwell time” around like it explains itself. It doesn’t.

Dwell time is how long the ball stays in contact with the paddle face before leaving. More dwell time means more feel, more control over where the ball goes, more ability to manipulate spin and pace on touch shots. The trade-off is usually pop - most control paddles bleed firepower in exchange for that soft feel.

The C-605 is built around a small-cell “divingboard” core - the polymer structure runs full-length into the handle, dual-wall foam wraps the entire perimeter, and the neck is foam-injected. Nothing hollow. Nothing rattles. The whole structure is designed to flex slightly, absorb energy, and return it through the face in a controlled way.

That’s where the dwell time comes from. The ball remains on the face longer than you expect - not dramatically, but enough that you feel it on the first drop shot. Resets, dinks, blocks - everything touch-based gets easier. The feel is soft and cushioned without being dead or dull.

The surface does its part too. Micro grit texture with friction specs near the USAP ceiling. To the touch, it almost feels smooth. On the ball, it grips like my wife at a Yankee Candle Black Friday Sale. Spin generation, pace absorption, control on drives - the texture is working alongside the core, not independently of it.

The controlling personality.

Here’s the part that doesn’t make sense on paper until you play it. This is a control paddle. But it doesn’t give up power - it controls power.

Just wait until you face a banger with the C-605. This thing effortlessly redirects powerful drives, and turns them into counter-attacks.

Most control paddles make a trade. You get precision, you give up firepower. The C-605 didn’t get the memo. It runs soft and precise on your dinks and resets, and when it wants to end a point, it ends a point.

The C-605 is definitely a control paddle. In fact, it’s controlling. So much control, it’s basically a personality trait. The kind of paddle that unexpectedly shows up to your kid's little-league game, and wants to do kitchen drills. The kind of paddle that calls you 15 times in a row, and tracks your location to ensure you're not sneaking around with any other control paddles.

C-605 vs the P-1.

Same family. Very different character.

The P-1 is SALT’s high-performance paddle - precise, exacting, unforgiving in the best way. It gives you exactly what you put in. Very dialed. Miss the sweet spot and it tells you. Hit cleanly and it performs. The P-1 rewards good mechanics.

The C-605 is the opposite of punishing. The sweet spot covers almost the entire face. Off-center shots still feel soft and buttery. It doesn’t require perfect contact to perform - it performs even when you’re human.

If you’ve been playing the P-1 and wanted more margin on your soft game - without switching to a paddle that plays small - this is the answer.

The C-605 doesn’t punish you for being human.

Who it’s for.

Top-tier players who don’t want to choose.

If your game is built on precision and finesse, the C-605 gives you a platform that meets you there - and doesn’t hold you back when you decide to attack. If you’ve been playing self-defense against bangers at the kitchen line, the C-605 is for you. If you've been wishing your resets felt a little more intentional, and your drops a little more consistent; the C-605 is ready for you.

The presale.

Limited inventory is in hand, with units available for presale.

$168 presale. $210 retail. 20% off. Ships in 1-2 weeks.

The C-605 is not yet USA Pickleball approved. Submission is underway - testing typically takes 4-6 weeks. We’re not sitting on paddles while that plays out.

Every presale buyer gets the USAP stamp at a live event once approval is confirmed. Can’t make it? We’ll work it out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the C-605 USAP approved?

What’s the difference between the C-605 and the P-1?

The P-1 is built for precision and power - exacting, dialed, rewards clean mechanics. The C-605 is built for control - large sweet spot, high dwell time, soft feel on touch shots. The C-605 is more forgiving on misses. Both are thermoformed T700 carbon fiber, but the similarities stop there. Different character entirely.

What does “dwell time” mean for a pickleball paddle?

Dwell time is how long the ball stays in contact with the face before leaving. Higher dwell time gives you more control over touch shots - resets, dinks, drops - because you have slightly more time to direct where the ball goes. The C-605’s dual-wall foam core with foam-injected neck is engineered for high dwell time without bleeding pop on put-aways.

Is the C-605 good for advanced players?

That’s who it’s built for. Players who have the touch game to use a control paddle - and want that precision without giving up firepower when they need to attack. If your game lives at the kitchen line and wins through placement, this is built for you.

How does the C-605 handle power attacks from opponents?

Well. The dual-wall foam core and high dwell time absorb incoming pace better than most - which means you can reset hard-hit balls more consistently. The face texture helps grip on blocks and redirects. The C-605 doesn’t resist power. It channels and reuses it.

What’s the handle length on the C-605?

Almost 6 inches - significantly longer than the P-1. More reach at the net, more leverage on two-handed backhands, more real estate in hand battles. If you’re one of the folks that told us to make the P-1 handle longer, the C-605 is for you.

What is the Ctrl Series?

The Ctrl Series is SALT’s control-focused paddle line. The C-605 is the first model. It sits alongside the P-1 (ultra light/control/power) in the SALT lineup - same thermoformed T700 carbon fiber construction quality, completely different playing character. Once it's USAP approved, we'll add widebody and hybrid shapes to the Ctrl Series line-up.
